City Cab has served the Frederick area since the early 1940s.
The office has moved around town and currently sits on Highland
Street behind the fairground for the past eleven (11) years,
but the goal has always remained constant: Be prompt and courteous.
Of
course, getting around Frederick was a lot easier 50 years
ago when City Cab started with two vehicles on South Court
Street in downtown Frederick. The present-day fleet boasts
34 sedans, including three (3) stretch limousines.
In
the early days, the city provided parking spots on South Street
for all of the cabs from all of the companies. There were
up to four companies running in Frederick. Over the years,
the strongest of the companies, City Cab, took over and became
the area's only fleet.
City
Cab was purchased by its present owner in 1983, but he has
worked for the company much longer and has literally grown
up in the taxi business, first as a dispatcher and then a
driver. Some of his love for the taxi business might have
rubbed off from his father, an independent cab driver who
drove for all of the cab companies then in Frederick. He often
rode with his father on a fare. But those rides were more
than just for entertainment; they were learning about cabs
and how to run a fleet.
