GlossaryDiagnostic EvaluationOne or more sessions designed to assess an individual's need for psychotherapy and/or medication after a review of his current situation and concerns, her social, medical, family and occupational history. Psychological TestingAssessment of an individual's strengths and weaknesses: intellectual and emotional, using paper and pencil tests along with a clinical interview. Medication EvaluationInterview by a psychiatrist to assess the need for, and potential benefits of medication to address emotional concerns and their related behavioral effects. Psychiatric EvaluationAssessment by a psychiatrist to diagnose and recommend treatment for an emotional problem. Individual TherapyA series of one-to-one sessions with a licensed mental health professional to assist an individual in resolving his emotional concerns. Couples TherapyA series of sessions between a licensed mental health professional and two persons in a relationship to address problems of communication, compromise, and mutual fulfillment in that relationship. Family TherapyA series of sessions among all or some of the members of a family and a licensed mental health professional to assist in addressing and resolving problems the family may have in communicating, accepting, tolerating, and disagreeing among the members of the family. Group TherapyA series of sessions between several non-related individuals who have expressed similar emotional concerns or who share similar life experiences, assisted by a licensed mental health professional, designed to assist those individuals in addressing and resolving their shared emotional issues. Sex TherapyA series of sessions between a licensed mental health professional also certified as a sex therapist and individuals or couples who are experiencing issues of sexual dysfunction or sexual orientation. HypnotherapyA series of sessions with a licensed mental health professional also certified in hypnosis designed to assist an individual with anxiety and/or other emotional issues through a series of hypnosis or hypnotic induction techniques.
